The road goes ever on and on…

Equilibrium Team

“It’s a dangerous business, going out your door, you step into the road and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” ~ JRR Tolkien.

Starting out in business for yourself can be like setting off on an epic journey, Arya style, with only an inkling as to the final destination. You have hopes and dreams of what you want to achieve but, in truth, you wake up most mornings and have no idea what the day could hold. In turn, the clients you meet and the work you do, shapes and moulds your business in ways you can’t anticipate. It’s scary sometimes, but all part of the great adventure.

When starting out, over 6 years ago, we had a similar message as the opening gambit to our original website and, looking back, it really is amazing to see what an adventure we’ve been on and where the journey, thus far, as led us.

Back then, I was just one woman, in a shared office, having just left Deloitte – a job I’d loved and done well in – setting up my little accountancy firm in a new city. There were so many unknowns, but the one thing I knew for certain was that I wanted to create an accountancy practice that would really get alongside and support small business owners in a real and engaging way. I wanted to know our client’s accounts and business ethos inside out, so that I could provide valuable insight and advice and help the dreams and ambitions of the people who ran them become a reality. For it’s the passion that small business owners pour into their businesses that makes them extra special.

Who knew that in just 6 years, we’d have grown to a team of three; have established ourselves in our own offices (with one of the best views of the Minster in the city) and have assisted over 80 clients. We’re still learning, still growing, as all small business are, but that same heart and ambition remains and I’m excited to see where the road takes us next, as we start this next phase of our business’ life and say goodbye to Ainscough Dunlop and hello to Equilibrium!
